Will Brightsolid get Friends Reunited from ITV?

Will Brightsolid's FindmyPast.co.uk succeed in purchasing Friends Reunited from ITV? That's the 64 million dollar question just now, as the Competition Commission makes its mind up. Third party submissions to the commission over the sale, including submissions from Ancestry and the National Archives at Kew, can be viewed online at www.competition-commission.org.uk/Inquiries/ref2009/brightsolid/third_party_submissions.htm.

By and large most companies (including the National Archives) are supporting the merger, suggesting that a stronger FindmyPast portfolio will provide better competition against current market leader Ancestry. Meanwhile Ancestry has declared itself neutral on the issue, with no substantial objections. In total, only 3 of the 13 submissions have so far raised any objections.

It does kind of make you wonder what the fuss is all about.... The competition's decision will be published in March or April (the statutory deadline is April 16th).
